Dr. Oliver Fries speaks at International Tower Cranes Conference

Oliver Fries Presents at Crane Conference

On Tuesday, November 5th in Berlin, Germany, the room was packed as Dr. Oliver Fries, WireCo’s Vice President Global R&D, Innovation and Technology, spoke at the third annual International Tower Cranes Conference.  This year’s conference was host to over 140 delegates representing leading crane manufacturers such as Manitowoc, Liebherr, Wolffkran, Terex, Zoomlion, Jaso, as well as large crane rental companies like Morrow, NFT Cranes and many others, regarding the potential selection and application issues of crane ropes.

Representing WireCo as one of our crane industry experts, Dr. Fries shared what will be required for the next generation of ropes to meet the demand of high speed and long lift crane applications.  As a seasoned veteran in the crane industry and a leader of key mobile crane innovations during his career, Dr. Fries was able to share his technical expertise with industry delegates from around the globe.

Dr. Fries has a Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kaiserslautern and more than 20 years of experience in crane development.  He began his career with all terrain crane design in 1991 at Demag, Germany. Over the years, he had increasing responsibilities within the mobile crane engineering industry, specifically with the research and development of terrain and crawler cranes.  He joined WireCo in April of 2012 and in his short time with the company, he has reenergized our R&D efforts to increase our offerings of new and innovative products in the areas of electromechanical cable, steel and synthetic wire rope R&D worldwide.

Due to the success of this week’s presentation, plans are already in place for Dr. Fries to speak  at next year’s International Tower Crane Conference to be held in Istanbul in May, 2014.  This event is projected to be a much larger conference with over 300 delegates, covering the Middle East, Turkey and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
